Owo PDP Publicity Secretary, Chief Akogun Olaniyi Folahanmi beckon on the Need For Roundtable Dialogue to avert Impending division between party stakeholders Ahead of 2023 general election
The Publicity Secretary People’s Democratic Party(PDP) Owo local government, Akogun Olaniyi Folahanmi calls for urgent roundtable dialogue of party leaders to avert the impending collapse of the party
The People’s Democratic Party has continued to witness intraparty conflicts running into weeks unresolved, the dispute which is traceable to the conflicting interest within party leaders prior to the Special National Convention that produced Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the party flag bearer in a well contested primary election between the other heavyweights who are also deserving and qualified for the Presidential seat.
The result of the election was accepted by all in the spirit of sportsmanship and to maintain the relative peace and cohesion the party enjoyed prior to the Special National Convention. Reconcilation efforts kicked off immediately after the convention and it seems that the effort has not yielded any appreciable success due to the unquantified division among national stakeholders. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who won the election was magnanimous in victory while the other aspirants were graceful in defeat too.
Event took a sour dimension during the nomination process of Presidential running mate for the party (PDP) to meet the guideline of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and to also meet up with the deadline announced by the umpire body for the submission of vice presidential nominee form.
His Excellency Nyesom Wike, (Governor Rivers State) got the nods of majority of the Southern stakeholders of the party to run as the Vice PresidentIial candidate of the party for the Presidential election, but things took an ugly turn as he was not picked by Alhaji Atiku and his Delta State counterpart, H.E Ifeanyi Okowa was the preferred running mate for Alahji Abubakar Atiku
This has left a bitter taste in the mouths of Southern stakeholders of the party, deepening crisis and resulting into open declarations of disatisfaction and tendencies of antiparty activities. Cases of disintegration in ranks and files of the party leaders due to the unavoidable bad decision of ignoring the contribution of Nyesom Wike to the party’s growth, especially in the southern zones of the country.
This further affected the moral and dilute the fibre the party is made of.
The issue is deteriorating on daily bases with the rumor circulating on social media about the six (6) Governors” Nyesom Wike of Rivers State; Samuel Ortom of Benue State; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State; Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Ishaku Darius of Taraba and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, former governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State”who are aggrieved and unwilling to support Atiku’s bid not officially debunked.
The Publicity Secretary People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) Owo Local Government, Chief Akogun Olaniyi Folahanmi understanding the dynamics of the politics playing out, and with definite foresights of the consequences of this unending and irreconcilable conflicts growing into foeman, with immediate alacrity petition the National leadership of the party to call for roundtable discussions and urgent reconciliation processes that will be an acceptable compromise with all the forces concerned.
This will ensure cohesion, love, peace and unity of purpose within the party as we go head to head with the ruling party at the forthcoming general election.
The effort made by our party is an attempt to rescue our beloved country from the current destruction and degradation currently witnessed by Nigerians in the last eight years of misrule and failure.
We must not relent nor allow ourselves to be divided.
