11 injured in autocrash on Lagos-Ibadan expressway
At least 11 people have been injured in a crash involving three vehicles along the interchange section of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson of the Ogun state traffic compliance and enforcement agency, said the accident involved a Mack truck, Mazda bus and a Toyota Hiace.
Akinbiyi said the crash occurred when the driver of the Mack truck attempted to manoeuvre into the premises of a private company in the area.
He added that a speeding Mazda bus collided with the truck, and moments later, a Toyota Hiace bus lost control and crashed into the other vehicles.
He said twenty-one people were on board the vehicles, comprising 12 men and nine women. Of these, 11 people sustained injuries, including eight men and three women.
“A serious crash involving a truck and 18-seater passenger bus at Cway junction some few meters after Heyden filling station, interchange,” he said.
“According to an eye witness, the driver of the Mack truck was trying to manoeuvre to Cway company and due to the inpatient and excessive speed of the Mazda bus, which led to the crash also affecting a Toyota hiace bus that lost control immediately the driver sighted the accident upfront.
“The vehicles involved are a MAZDA bus with number plate SMK 554 YH, a MACK truck with number plate FNN 934 XA, and a TOYOTA Hiace bus with number plate kJA 995 XA.
“21 people were involved, including 12 adult males and nine adult females, while 11 people were injured,d including eight males and three females. The injured victims were taken to Idera Hospital at Shagamu by FRSC.
“Emergency responders at the scene of the crash included TRACE personnel, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Police.”
